This week has been filled with course work and selling art to pay bills so I haven’t done any writing! You can check out some of my paintings if you are interested on my Instagram or Facebook page. I’ve given up judging myself for this because the judgement actually means I move further away from writing—stairs of shame and regret to climb instead of just recognising that life is part of writing! But I’m always thinking of the story—which is why I know I have to get it written. Here are a couple of things from the week that really sparked me.
With the release of the new live album for Spell Songs Gifts of Light based on the book The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris I couldn’t help going and listening to The Lost Words Blessing on repeat this week. I think there are so many more senses we have to reclaim with our words… sounds, feeling, taste… and I love how a book about words turned into songs that strike an ancient cord. Here it is for your pleasure.
I also enjoyed this episode of Beyond Belief on BBC Sounds where the discussion of Witches, Druids, and Pagans talked about some of the movement re-indigenising the spirituality of the British Isles and a frank discussion about the disembodiment of the Christian faiths. It also talked about the conversion tactics historically employed by becoming a part of a community and repurposing and absorbing local beliefs. Obviously this had me thinking a lot about our story. You can listen to that here.
Have a great week.
