Conversation with Medieval Manuscript Scholar Sara Charles tomorrow!
Spend an hour with us learning about the process of Medieval book making and imagining what the scriptorium on Iona may have been like.
A while back I shared with you all some work by an amazing scholar who was studying and then actually recreating medieval manuscript creation processes. [You can read that post here: The Intimacy of Ink ]. It was thrilling to come across Sara Charles’ work while trying to imagine the scriptorium that plays a pivotal role in our story. I threw caution to the wind and contacted Sara to see whether or not she would fancy a chat. And she generously did!
Tomorrow, July 5th we’ll be meeting up on Zoom to discuss Sara’s career as a medieval book historian at the University of London, how she came to that field of study, her experiences trying to recreate the manuscripts of the past, and spending some time imaging with her what it would have been like in our 10th Century scriptorium on Iona. She also has a book coming out soon called “The Medieval Scriptorium” which she will tell us all about.
Paid subscribers can join live and ask Sara any of their own questions. I’m looking forward to a really inspirational hour!
I hope to see you.
